I was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. Ever since I was old enough to hold a crayon, I have wanted to be an artist. I have created art in one fashion or another all of my life. My focus used to be as an illustrator. I drew and painted all the time, driving my family crazy at times. The walls in our family home when I grew up were covered with murals painted by my family, I was lucky in that my parents helped to feed my passion for artwork.
Art Career:
My first art job out of high school was a cartoonist and sign maker for Marc’s discount stores. After one year of sign making I was promoted to their advertising department.
The next in my artistic journey was working as a commercial artist for a print shop, doing everything from layout, design and illustration.
I then decided to try my hand at running my own business. For two years I ran ‘Daveant’s Type & Design’. A desktop publishing business ran out of my home on the west side of Cleveland. To help my growing family stay financially afloat I started teaching computer classes to supplement my business income. One thing led to another and I switched careers and starting working in the IT field.
A Passion for Photography:
Although my former IT career payed the bills, it has never fed my soul like creating artwork does. Over the past few years I have fell in love with photography. While I am not formally trained in this aspect of being an artist, I feel that I have an eye for it.
I work in and around downtown Cleveland, and any time I have the opportunity I am shooting my camera, before work, during lunch, after work. I love the city; it is so alive and diverse.
Recent photography opportunities have included shooting games for the Cleveland Fusion Football Team and many other local Cleveland events.
I sell my photography to many stock photography web sites and compete in many online photo challenges, and even win some now and then. You can see my work on my website daveantphoto.com. |
